Paul Thurman M.S.
Guidance Counselor & College Placement Specialist
Paul Thurman comes to the Stevenson Academy of Fine Arts via Long
Island’s most successful college counseling program. For
the past eight years he was Guidance Chairman at Commack High
School. In addition, Mr. Thurman has worked in a variety of school
settings over the past thirty years as a counselor and administrator.
He is widely regarded as one of Long Island’s leading authorities
on the college admission process. Mr. Thurman is a graduate of
the Queens College Counselor Education Program where he earned
a Master of Science Degree. He is certified as a School Counselor
and School Administrator. Mr. Thurman is also a Licensed Clinical
Counselor in private practice where he works with adolescents
and young adults. For the past few years Mr. Thurman has specialized
in counseling students who are interested in pursuing college
level training in the Arts. He is an expert on the college admissions
process as it pertains to these students. Mr. Thurman became interested
in working with young artists largely because of his own son’s
desire to gain admission to Conservatory Art Programs. Not able
to find anyone in the counseling community, who fully understood
the process, he set about to become an expert in the field. To
this end, with the support of Stevenson Academy his son Sam is
now a successful scholarship student at MICA. (Sam was an Intensive
Portfolio Student at the Academy). Last summer Mr. Thurman was
instrumental in guiding Stevenson Academy students to their most
successful college admission’s year yet.
