Nicholas
M. Raynolds was born
on December 25, 1967
in Victoria, British
Columbia, Canada.
As a child he gained
his first inspiration
to become a painter
from his Grandfather
who was visiting
from Germany. It was
under this influence
that he acquired the
fundamentals of seeing
and drawing.
Raynolds
began his formal
studies in art at
the age of 15 in Vancouver,
Canada where he
later received his
BFA. He continued
his studies
in Düsseldorf,
Germany and in Halifax,
Nova Scotia. In
pursuit of
the mastery of his
craft, he attended
the Gage Academy
of Art (formerly
the Seattle Academy
of Realist Art).
There he studied
with Tony
Ryder and Michael
Grimaldi. In January
of 2001 Raynolds
moved to New
York to study with
Jacob Collins at
the Water Street
Atelier and at
Studio 126 with
Michael Grimaldi.
Raynolds
is represented by
the John Pence Gallery
in San Francisco, where
he held his second
one-man show in
September 2007 and
was the "Introductions" artist
in July 2005. He
has exhibited nationally
and abroad
including exhibitions
at the Meredith
Long Gallery in
Houston Texas,
APEX Gallery in
Washington DC, the
Grenning Gallery
in Sag Harbor
NY and Cavalier
Galleries in Connecticut.
His work can be
found in
numerous collections,
most notably, The
Forbes Collection,
NY. His work
has been published
in American Artist's
Premier issue of
'Drawing Magazine',
the February 2006
issue of 'The Artist's
Magazine' and the September
2007 issue of 'Art
Collector' magazine.
His painting appears on
the cover of John
Updike's novel 'Seek
My Face'.
Raynolds' teaching experience includes The Gage Academy of Art and
Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia PA.
Raynolds has traveled extensively throughout North America and
Europe and to Mexico and the Middle East, often working as a scenic
and decorative painter. Most notable of these projects was assisting
in the decoration of the palace and residence of His Highness Sheik
Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Raynolds also worked as
an assistant painter to Jeff Koons in New York city.
Nicholas Raynolds lives in Brooklyn, New York with his wife and daughter.
