POTTERY INSTRUCTOR: Gina Mars
Pottery Instructor
Gina Mars has been a Huntington, Long Island potter for over 20
years. She is known for her raku vessels and portals. Gina incorporates
wheel thrown pieces with extruded and slab made additions to create
portals that give a sense of cultural influence from such regions
as Egypt and Greece. Gina was awarded a full scholarship for her
undergraduate and graduate work in Education, History, and Ceramics
at Long Island University under the tutiledge of Rose Krebs from
the Bauhaus in Germany. Gina has studied with Korean and Japanese
masters to perfect her craft throughout the years as well.
She is known nationwide for her large round vessels with thrown
portals
embellishing her work. She has been featured as "Artist of
the Month" on WBLI's program "Ticket." She has
also been featured in many magazines and is considered one of
Long Island's leading Ceramic artists. This year she will host
"All Fired up," a nationally recognized Potters Convention
featuring prominent artists from all over the globe.
Gina will also take over as president of the National Potters
Council
and publish her first book, Clay Revolution.
Gina is a superb addition to the professional staff at SAFA, and
we look forward to seeing what her students will produce!
